Ōsawa Bekkō  and the Art of Inherited Craftsmanship

The Bekkō work used in these frames is crafted by Ōsawa Bekkō, a workshop that carries forward the traditional techniques of Edo Bekko, a Japanese artisanal heritage dating back to the Edo period. Located in Tokyo’s Bunkyō district, Ōsawa Bekkō continues to refine each piece through the hands of skilled artisans who work with sincerity and respect for the material. They bring out the natural patterns and textures born from the sea, allowing every element of the shell to reveal its quiet beauty. The processes of lamination, in which multiple plates are fused under heat and pressure, and finishing, where the surface is polished repeatedly to achieve a mirror-like glow, require extraordinary skill and years of experience. It is through this devotion that each frame embodies the spirit of craftsmanship handed down through generations.

The temperature of the heat, the angle of the blade, the pressure of the polish, these belong to a realm that cannot be measured by numbers but only felt through years of experience. The slightest difference in touch can transform the outcome entirely. The result is a material unlike any other: no two pieces are ever the same, each possessing its own quiet individuality. In the world of natural materials, the hand of the craftsman is indispensable. Every creation from Ōsawa Bekkō speaks to this truth, that genuine beauty can only be born through the dialogue between nature and human touch.
