BEKKO MATERIAL

Respect for the Material and the Washington Convention

Today, the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), the source of Bekkō, is recognized as an endangered species, and its international trade is strictly regulated under the Washington Convention (CITES). In full accordance with the spirit of this treaty, KameManNen does not engage in any new importation of the material. We use only existing stock that was legally imported and stored in Japan prior to the enforcement of the Convention. The Bekkō used in KameManNen frames is processed exclusively by Ōsawa Bekkō, a specialist atelier that upholds both the responsible management of materials and the inheritance of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Because the resource is limited, we treat it with care, crafting each piece to be cherished for many years to come. With a deep sense of responsibility toward the natural materials we use, KameManNen strives to create objects that endure beyond their time, carrying the spirit of craftsmanship into the generations ahead.
